Stop Hiding and Stop Suffering

If the veins on your body are ugly and painful, you may shy away from wearing shorts and skirts or engaging in activities that could irritate your problematic veins. It does not have to be this way.

At The Vein Clinic At Athens Dermatology’s state-of-the-art facility in Athens, Georgia area, we provide safe, effective solutions for women and men suffering from venous diseases and conditions. We treat the following conditions:

Varicose Veins — Watkinsville, GA — The Vein Clinic At Athens Dermatology Group

Varicose Veins

Most often found in the legs and feet, varicose veins appear as blue tinted swollen and knotted cords running under the surface of the skin. These unsightly, painful veins occur most commonly in women, but men can experience them, too. If your varicose veins are keeping you from living fully, you’ve come to the right place. We have procedures that can treat varicose veins to help reduce your pain and embarrassment.

Spider Veins — Watkinsville, GA — The Vein Clinic At Athens Dermatology Group

Spider Veins

Spider veins are different from varicose veins in several ways. They do not create a knotted surface on your skin, but rather are smooth to the touch. They can be red or blue, and they are smaller than varicose veins. Like the name implies, spider veins form clusters of patterns that often branch out like the thin lines of a spider’s web. Unlike varicose veins which occur mostly on the legs, spider veins may appear anywhere on your body.

Dr. Maffei performs most varicose and spider vein procedures in his office on an outpatient basis. Depending on the location and condition of the veins, Dr. Maffei will help you select which procedure is right for your treatment.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical, virtually pain free procedure in which small to medium-sized spider and varicose veins are injected with an FDA approved solution. The veins then collapse and fade over the next several months, leaving behind smoother skin. Sclerotherapy doesn’t require anesthesia and is done in Dr. Maffei’s office.

Vein Closure / Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT)

EVLT is a minimally invasive, laser vein surgery requiring only local anesthesia. The procedure takes less than two hours and patients can resume regular activity almost immediately. Dr. Maffei uses the respected VenaCure EVLT system with a 98% success rate from AngioDynamics.

VeinGogh

For treating very fine vessels and spider veins that are too small to be treated with Sclerotherapy, we often use a procedure called VeinGogh. In this minimally invasive procedure, an electric current safely collapses the blood vessels and causes them to disappear almost instantly. This procedure does not require downtime to recover.

Varicose Vein Ligation & Stripping

Varicose Vein Ligation and Stripping is a surgical process that normally takes place in in the hospital outpatient setting and takes about 90 minutes to perform. In this procedure, two small incisions are made, one at the top and the other at the bottom of the affected vein, and the vein is removed. This procedure is the old standard for treatment of saphenous vein reflux and is only rarely done these days.

Phlebectomy

Phlebectomy is a procedure that involves multiple small skin incisions, through which the varicose veins are removed. This procedure may be done alone or in combination with other procedures to treat varicose veins in the legs. Depending on the size and extent of the varicose veins, phlebectomy can be done in the office under local anesthesia or in the hospital outpatient setting with sedation.
